Alright, Jags fans. This is week number one, kickoff week. We are the Jag Bros. Only two of us on tonight. Uh, my name is Jack, along with my older brother, JT. Joey, unfortunately, can't make it. He's all the way in Italy recruiting some Jags fans there in Europe. But Jags football is finally here. And we are kicking off Sunday, September 13th at 1 p.m. Eastern. Again, we're trying this new format on YouTube Live. We're going to try to interact with some of you all Jags fans. We're going to be in Everbank. The Jags are that is this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Jags are currently eight and a half point favorites. JT, what are kind of your early thoughts? Week one, Jags football back, game against the Browns on Sunday.
SPEAKER_00Man, it feels so much better now that football is back. I had a chance to be inside the swamp alongside a couple of friends. Uh the Gator Nation football podcast guys, James and Alan. Uh, for those that are Jag Gator fans, was watching the game with them there in the swamp, and it was awesome. It has only built up my excitement for the Jags next week as well. The Gators looked good. I'm excited to see the Jags look good on Sunday. Uh, this is a great time of year. Hope, hope abounds for us. And uh it just as the state as the uh season gets closer, I feel like my excitement level gets even more uh even higher as well.
SPEAKER_01Same, same 100%, especially because on the flip side, for all the Jags Knolls fans, we're actually recording this later. We're pulling the FSU uh FSU yet again national embarrassment. Can't even get the power to work to start a game and uh not looking great right now. We'll see how it ends up.
SPEAKER_00But uh they forget to pay the utility bill.
SPEAKER_01We got no money. We can't even pay to fire our historically bad coach. So yeah, but here we are, Jags fans. Uh so jags gator fans, y'all are excited. Jags for the handful of Miami fans, y'all are excited as well. But Jags Knowles fans, this is our this is this our therapy because Jags are good, and we get hopefully a perfect game to start off against one of the teams that was not great last year. Uh, is total rebuild mode. They're starting to Sean Watson against Trevor Lawrence. So, kind of a format for all you new Jags fans, Jags Bros fans, is here's how we break down the game. We go Jags offense versus the other team, in this case the Browns defense, then Jags defense versus the Browns offense. We'll talk about three keys to victory. These are things we think the Jags need to do to pull out the dub on Sunday, and then we're gonna give our score predictions. So, again, throughout the episode, talk some trash, Jags fans, any Browns fans that jump in, uh, let us know as well. But let's go ahead and get started. Actually, take us into Jags offense versus Browns defense. But before we do that, just some interesting facts on Jags versus Browns. So these two teams have played each other 20 times. The Jaguars are actually you want to take a guess, JT, on our record all-time versus the Browns?
SPEAKER_00Man, I would think we used to play them a lot in the 90s when we were actually in the same division. We play them twice. I remember the Bottle Gate game where we were able to knock them out of the playoffs, uh uh playoff contention back with Tom Coughlin, maybe 2000, 2001 era. And I would suspect we we have a winning record. I know we we were talking offline. We we lost to uh Deshaun Watson last time we played them in a horrible game a couple years ago. Ugly game. And I remember watching I think we lost to Joe Flacco who put up like 40 against us uh three years ago. And I think that was one of the games that I uh had my one of my famous rants after because I could not believe that a 38-year-old Joe Flacco just torched us like that. Um with I think uh uh the tight end at the time uh just tore us up. Oh, I would suspect in Joku. Yeah, I think he had like 15 catches for 150 yards. But um I'm gonna I'm gonna guess we're 13 and 7 or 14 and 6.
SPEAKER_01Impressive, yeah. Jags are 12 and 8. So one of the few teams we probably have a very good record against.
SPEAKER_00But uh, stacking those victories where you got two and a two in a year. No, and not.
SPEAKER_01So we need to turn, we need to turn around because we've lost three in a row to your point, JT. We actually have not beaten the Browns since an incredible Jag season 2017, where Uncle Jeff would love to know this. We beat the Browns 19-7 when they were starting Notre Dame legend, quarterback legend, Deshaun Kaiser. It's an inside family joke that uh our Uncle Jeff loves, Deshaun Kaiser. But again, time to turn around. Jags are the better team, and and uh again, eight and a half-point favorites, a lot of things in their momentum. But JT, why don't you talk about Jags offense, Browns defense here?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so we we obviously have been breaking down the Jags offense for the last couple of weeks, talking about how this could be a top three or top five offense. Uh, we this is the I think you said is the first time in where Trevor has consistency in offensive coordinating play calls since he's been in the NFL. And oh, by the way, we actually have good ones. So you you you would anticipate him continuing to uh move up on his upper trajectory. I think the last six or seven weeks of of last year, he was as high of any NFL quarterback uh statistically, QBR rating, whichever one you want to look at, a lot of the advanced metrics as well. He was right up there with Matthew Stafford, if not better, uh, on some things. So I would anticipate him taking that step forward. Um, and and look, the the only, especially if you're a new Jags fan or somebody that's just tuning in after ignoring the offseason, the only real difference uh this offense will have compared to last year is who's starting at running back, which will be Bay Shall Tutan. We saw him a lot last year. He flashed, uh, and he's gonna be getting what we think is most likely the lion's share of the work outside of goal line carries and third and one opportunities, which we think uh will give uh to uh the Jaguars' newest member of the running back core, um the commanders. So though that's the Jags offense, flipping the the the Browns defense, the sack leader, the Mr. scariest man in the NFL himself, Miles Garrett, is no longer a Brown. So you Jared Verse, who I'm really high on, I think he's really good, speaking of Florida State, very good player, but he's not he's not a one of one like Miles Garrett.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, not a Hall of Fame, you know, top three player in the NFL. Correct.
SPEAKER_00Uh their defense, also from a personnel perspective, before we start talking about what we think will happen. Uh Mason Graham, uh, the defensive tackle for them is a year two. The reason why I bring him up is because he was the guy that most pundits thought we would draft had we not traded up to get Travis Hunter. So it'll be interesting to see how he plays. Uh Quincy Williams at the linebacker level is good. And then another Jaguar uh name that that uh fans will remember Tyson Campbell is their starting corner on the outside, who will likely be either on BTJ uh or Myers most of the game. So um we have to like that matchup. Uh, but supposedly a lot of buzz out of out of the camp that Tyson Campbell's uh been been really strong for the Browns this year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I would love to see whether it's BTJ or uh Myers just cook um Campbell. That'd be amazing. The only other guy I'll say on the Browns is Carson Schwessinger, the linebacker. He's a rookie, one defensive rookie of the year. This is on paper strength on strength, but to your point, not only is Myles Garrett one of the best players in terms of equating two first-round picks, a star player in Jared Verse, but just a leader, the cornerstone, a lot of stuff that's just not even a show up on paper. So like you look at the Browns' defense last year, fourth in total yards on defense, third in sacks, thirds and pass yards, kind of middle of the road in the rush game. Uh, this should be a game without Miles Garrett, where the Browns are just starting a lot of young players. Mason Graham, you talked about Carson Swessinger year two, Jared first, even though he's a beast, just so young, I think, year three, and several other young guys. Like the the matchup, I'm circling big time is Parker Washington. He has had so much buzz because of all the contract talk. And the Browns outside corners are are decent to pretty good, depending on how Tyson Campbell plays. Denzel Ward is solid. I believe he got paid this offseason. But you look at who's lining up in the slot for them, it is Miles Harden, a slot corner, seventh round pick out of South Dakota from a couple years ago. Obviously, they're gonna bring safety up. I'm not saying it's gonna be one-on-one all the time on that, but whether or not the Jags pay Parker Washington before week one or not, like out of him in one fantasy league, I think he's gonna go off. I think it's gonna be a big game for Pete Washington, and Gladstone's either gonna look like a genius because he gets the deal done beforehand, or everyone's gonna be like, we should have paid him, we should have paid him. But uh that's a a big game, I think, for Parker Washington in this one.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I completely agree. And and I saw something that the last five or six years that um the slot receiver for Liam Cohen's offenses have all been awesome. When Cooper Cup had his best year, that was a slot receiver position for the Rams, and Liam Cohen was the OC. Uh Chris Godwin a couple years ago, uh, was uh was a running back, or sorry, a wide receiver one in a lot of fantasy, like a like a top five uh uh fantasy player that year. Yeah, Twin Twice. Yeah, Robinson. Yep. We had all these guys that that have been crushing it, and uh I I I completely agree with you. I think Parker Washington, it's also why in the last episode I had Parker Washington over 1,200 yards uh receiving because I I think he's gonna have a special year this year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean that that pick could look very, very good after week one. You know, that's where I think the big advantage, the big question mark is gonna be that is strength on strength, kind of secondary with the pass rush. But again, the Browns are only a middle of the road run defense, and the Jags rushing attack was awesome, but no Travis Etienne, who I guess has changed his name to now Travis A. Chain, which is funny, I always forget that. But it's going to be interesting. Tootin is going to be the big question mark to me, and just the running game as a whole. LeQent Allen, again, we're recording this Monday night. It's questionable, so it could be just a one-two punch of um of Tutin and Chris Rodriguez Jr. But if LeQuent Allen is available, I think again, it is a one-two-three punch. When we broke it down, like these guys fit their rules nicely. Uh, Tutin kind of more the cowbell, uh, Rodriguez, kind of more the second and third and short goal line back, and then LeQent Allen's a perfect third down back because he's a beast in the receiving game and a beast at pass protection. So it would be awesome to see all three healthy and suited up on Sunday.
SPEAKER_00Agreed. Yeah, no, we'll we'll give our keys to the game here in a second, but I I think we should have the ability to move the ball well. Uh Grant Delpitt's pretty solid at safety, so that could be the guy who's matched up against um helping out with Parker and or Strange, but there's just too many weapons for Jacksonville, and I think Trevor's Trevor's feeling himself. Uh, you got the game at home. We're putting up at least 20 points. I I don't really see a way where um that doesn't happen for Jacksonville, especially if when we start flipping it over to the uh defensive side of the ball for Jacksonville against the Browns. I anticipate there being a lot of uh potential for turnovers, a lot of potential for uh quick drive sacks that that end up setting up good field position on the other side. Jack, take us uh what should we expect from Deshaun Watson in this Browns offense?
SPEAKER_01Well, that's a good thing, right? Deshaun Watson is not Deshaun Watson of five, six years ago, where he obviously won the Heisman and National Championship for Clemson and then looked really good for several seasons for Houston. Everybody knows that, right? Google the story of what has happened to Deshaun Watson off the field and on the field. He's not the same guy. He is uh I think in the 60s on Madden. Like he's just not a world beater. What is a little bit scary to me on this side is you're gonna have almost no tape on pretty much everyone else for the Browns. Browns obviously brought in a new head coach, Todd Munkin, who we really liked two years ago when the Jags were looking at coaches, or at least I did. He was kind of in that second slate after Ben Johnson, Liam Cohen for me, or second tier of guys that we might want to look at. So he's gonna be calling the plays on offense. And then you look at just a ton of rookies in the starting lineup. Spencer Fano's the left tackle. And then the the weapons, you've got Denzel Boston, a good receiver out of Washington. Uh, I think a second-round pick, Casey Concepcion, an AM guy, kind of a Parker Washington light, this undersized, quick, shifty guy that's going to line up a bunch in the slot. And then you have Harold Fannon Jr., uh prototypical F tight end. That's that's a receiving guy that's had a very good rookie year.
SPEAKER_00He's awesome. I watched him at Bowling Green. He he was uh I loved what I saw of Fannon, and he is the one guy that would scare me on the offense, uh, for for sure.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then just the other guy is gonna be the the rushing attack. You have Dylan Sampson, who's gonna be RB2, young rookie guy out of Tennessee, and then Quinshawn Judkins. I did not realize like he quietly almost had a thousand yards, eight hundred something on the ground and almost 200 receiving, 998 yards and seven touchdowns last year.
SPEAKER_00What was his average carry though? It felt like he they ran him into two yards of carry for uh most of that. Well, the fantasy is not good. He started he started well, he had a couple great games, and then he tailed off in the the back half of that year.
SPEAKER_01But again, Jags, y'all know this. Jags, again, we didn't make a ton of moves, so it's gonna be interesting because you're carrying in the number one rush defense from last year. So, okay, Judkins was fine, Dylan Sampson's interesting, but you're going to make them one-dimensional, and the only way the Browns' offense gets you is what we have seen the past. It's almost like the backup quarterback syndrome for the Jags defense, where sometimes it's these Jake Browning games or the 38-year-old or 41-year-old Joe Flacco games. That's the only thing that concerns me because Watson has nothing to lose. He's gonna sling it, he's gonna go deep.
SPEAKER_00Um he got no game left, Jack. Like he was like so so. If you're thinking like how many times we say that, yeah. But but you if you're thinking, like, wait a second, I feel like I haven't heard that name in a while. You you're right, because he's coming off of an Achilles injury, which, oh, by the way, the thing. He wasn't good before then. Correct, yeah. He had already he was already washed by that point, and then you come up come back from an Achilles injury. Like, I know people are high on the Colts. I don't know, I don't understand that. Like, these Achilles injuries are really hard to come back from, especially from a quasi-mobile quarterback. And oh, by the way, in 2024, he played seven games before he got injured. Let's look at those seven games. He was sacked six times, two times by the Jags. Ugh, the one game we lost that game. Uh, eight times, seven times, five times, three times. He was getting sacked all the time. Uh, he was averaging about 150 yards uh uh per game. His passer rating was in like the 80s. Uh he was turning over the ball a lot. And oh and they did not score more than 18 points, which was against the Jags when we lost 18 to 13. They did not score more than 18 points in all seven games, despite the fact that they lost every single other one of them. The only game that Deshaun Watson won was against the Jags in week two of 2024. Uh, I the this to me, look, I'm a little bit lower than some on the Jags defense that I've been saying all offseason. But this is a perfect matchup. Like, I don't see I don't see how they scored 17.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and you point it out, this is a game where, you know, we talked about on offense, we like Parker Washington to feast. Defensively, Josh Heinzellen and Trayvon Walker need to feast. Trayvon Walker goes and gets paid. You look at who they're gonna line up against, they're gonna line up against a rookie left tackle and Spencer Fano, who I liked, you know, he's fine. Uh, but to be a rookie on the road as a left tackle, it's one of the hardest positions. And typically, offensive tackle takes several years to get to that high level. Even Will Campbell, as much as people loved him, you know, did not have a great rookie season, uh, certainly not towards the end. But then the other side, right tackle Titus Howard, Jags fans are gonna know as well, because he was a Texans offense tackle for many years, and our guys had been horrible.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the Texans offense line's been horrible too. And so you you you would think you would think Josh Hines Allen, you would think Walker, you would think um uh inside correct. You'd think they they'd be able to um to be able to get get after Watson. I would love to see four or five sacks. Uh, I would love for it to be Saxonville again for for the Jaguars defense. I'd love, I'd love for us to get way overhyped by seeing us trash uh uh like maybe one of the bottom five teams in the NFL. And so, and look, here's the best part about Liam Cohen is he does that to these teams. Yeah, like we'll we'll talk about our keys to the game and some intangibles here in a second and score predictions. But look, like this is what Liam Cohen does. He doesn't turn around and lose these clunkers at home against a team you're vastly superior than.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh uh, you know, you talk about week one last year. Jags beat up the Panthers 26 to 10. And that's the only thing you have to watch out for is coming out flat, coming out rusty. Cowboys, like I live in Dallas. Cowboys do this a bunch where they just like almost ease into their season. They had Zeke Elliott for many years. He had to get in shape for the first month. But Liam Cohen keeps his team disciplined. Yes, they didn't play starters in the preseason, but they played every single team they played, they played starters in those competitive practices, which a lot of teams love and coaches praise. So looking at keys to victory, and again, Jags fans drop them live or in the comments later, and we'll interact with every single one of your keys to victories. We'll let you know where we agree, maybe disagree, Browns fans, if you all have any keys to victories. But I'm gonna start off with my first one, and this is just a turnover battle. That's the only way this gets out of hand is if you're losing the turnover battle. I think you can lose a turnover battle certainly by one and be fine and win this game. I think if you're at two, I think it's a little bit of a question mark. More than two, you're in big trouble. So one is that big number. Uh again, but this is a Jags defense. It was one of the best in the league. They're bringing back their DC at creating turnovers. Deshaun Watson has been a turnover machine. So as long as you are close in the turnover battle, again, on paper, Jag's way better team.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I think you'll I love I love going the turnover route. I love what you did. I actually would move that to three or four. I think we could be minus three and still win this game. I think that's where it becomes more of a coin flip. I'll be interested to see what your your score prediction is. Um, but to me, I'm gonna say there's uh I'm I'll start offensively. There's so many ways I think that we can be successful. Uh what I would say is the is an old stat, and the reason why we lost the the game two years ago against Deshaun Watson, it is how many how many possessions do we have on their side of the field where we come away with zero points? Like I I think we had five or six where we'd go for it and or we turn over, we uh Trevor would throw a pick in the end zone, or he went for it, or we missed a field goal, uh pre-Cam Little, like all these little things that that would just add up, or you're punting on on your own 41, or excuse me, on their 41. Uh, all of those things added up to really just a frustrating day. Uh, and so I I'm gonna say you can have uh two possessions where you come away with zero, which is high, but but I think we'll be there a lot. I think you have two possessions where you come away with zero points on their fifth on their side of the 50, and you can still win this game. So that's what I'm looking at.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you don't have to be perfect, is the big thing. You just you have to minimize mistakes to a level. And we have our first comment in the live, and this is gonna lead to my second key here, too. K key uh KKPK YouTube uh says Browns starting Deshaun Watson is crazy LOL. So uh a lot of truth to that. You know, there's you know, a lot of Browns fans probably feel like the Jags of four or five years ago where you're almost trying to lose because 2027 is supposed to be a beast draft class. You've got some interesting young talent. Like I think there's gonna be some fun players, some good highlights. But just across the board and certainly in depth, Jags way better. But my second key point is you just can't let Deshaun Watson have a vintage game or have a backup quarterback style game. Anything under 275 yards for Deshaun Watson. 275? Yeah, that's for the last time. So like he would have to go crazy. Which, fun fact, he's only done that twice, not since like 2024 when he last started. He's only done that twice since 2020. And he's never been over 300 yards since that season, 2020, 2021. So in both those games he did is like Tennessee and the Jets or someone else like that, and just like barely over. So in no vintage games. And the other thing I would say is win the sack battle. And you don't even have to win the sack battle. It's just you can't be negative three. Like if Trevor's getting harassed by Verse and we're not getting any pressure, that's the only way I'm concerned. Like if the Browns have three or more sacks than we do, okay, maybe. But um I think again, Jags O-line is way better than the Browns O-line. Jags pass rush, even with Jerry Verse, who I like, is still better than the Browns pass rush. So um those are my three keys to victory.
SPEAKER_00So my my key on the defense uh is gonna be a hilarious one. I I don't really see a scenario where they win with Deshaun Watson offensively. And so my key to the game is that Shador Sanders has less than 80 yards of rushing because I mean he could even cut, he's terrible, he's not a great player either. But but as long as you're not letting somebody like him come out and run all over you, uh, or some sort of crazy thing happen, uh, I I don't see I don't see a path where Deshaun Watson wins this game for them where they're scoring 24 plus points. Um I I look it's the NFL, anything can happen, sure, but like it's not happening, he's not throwing for 275. Judkins is not running for 150. I thought about taking Defanon because I'm curious about uh how how Miller and uh Foyer line up against him, but even still, I don't think there's enough juice there. You you just Shannor Sanders is their backup. He could obviously score, but uh I that's the only way I I start to feel a little nervy.
SPEAKER_01Oh man. FSU looking bad again.
SPEAKER_00I got the came on my with that touchdown. My wife went to SU Pitts or old tight end. It's a family rivalry here. My wife went to SMU, so I'm on the other. And plus, I hate FSU at all of the against them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't even know. Unfortunately, college is not like pro football where you can be bad and get good picks. You're just bad and stuck with your $60 million coach. But uh let's talk predictions to the game. Again, the Jags are eight and a half point favorites, which is a lot. That's a two-possession game, which is huge for the NFL, especially week one, where you're still gonna have people high on their team. You're gonna have people bet on the Browns because they're Browns fans. And it is week one. Like I looked up week one last year. The craziest game that happened was that the Raiders beat the Patriots in New England 20 to 13. So crazy things.
SPEAKER_00Who had what two wins the rest of the season or one other win the rest of the season or something?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, and Patriots only had what one or two other losses obviously went to the Super Bowl. So um obviously flip the script for both teams. But I'll go ahead and give my prediction. I'm not gonna have sometimes I try to like build up a lot of projection or whatever. I think the Jags cover the spread. I think the Browns maybe get to 17 points just because you have so many of these young, flashy guys that you know they may have a big play by Concepcion or Boston or Fanon. But this isn't the Browns' defensive hold. The Jags, I think, are gonna want to make a statement. Hey, they went 13 and 4 last year, and like no one's picking them. So I think more people are picking the Colts in the division, which is more obviously the Texans. Like Texans are gonna be good, and I get that, but no, I I've got the Jags dropping 30. Give me Jags 30 to the Browns 17. Double digit win, comfortable win, a game where I think the Jags start off aggressive, and it's just not a game. Again, similar to week one last year, where you handle the Panthers easily. I I think the Jags, as Jags fans, we feel good throughout most of this game.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I I I love it. I'm right with there with you, Jack. I also think this is a comfortable cover. I think Jaguars win 34-13. I think the uh I was at the Panthers game last year. I think it's very similar where you have a uh just a blowout victory, uh, a comfortable victory, one that you don't have to sweat out. And I and look, this is Liam Cohen. This is not just us wearing our teal colored goggles, and yes, I look Vegas is Vegas, and uh, but but to I don't see Sna the implied score is like 24 to like 15 and a half, and I think Jaguars get one more, and I think the the Browns are a little bit under.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so uh our other fan, Jags fan in here right now, agrees with us as well. He likes Jags 41 to 17. Love it, yeah. So uh keep dropping those predictions. Uh we'll be on X or Twitter throughout the game. We always do this where we try to tweet our thoughts and uh we'll we'll post all of our predictions and more stuff throughout the week.
SPEAKER_00Well, Joe, Joey will Joey will have him like 41-0 or something like that. Uh you'd always tell when uh Joey the the uh one of the greatest Jags bros moment.
SPEAKER_01He had like 50 to 0 that Monday night game against the Bengals. And then we lost. We did lose to Jake Browning. So no, uh Joey is enjoying Italy. Usually he would give us uh his insights, but we'll share those if he texts us. Uh we'll we'll drop those in the comments as well. But Jags fans, week one, Jags football is here. Let's go. Uh let's let's get it rolling. Let's get started one and oh, let's get this season off to a hot start for your Jacksville Jaguars and help us out. We're gonna be on YouTube, but we're gonna continue to share the audio on Apple, on Spotify. We're at 372 subscribers. Let's hit 400 by the end of the month, by the end of September. Uh, so if the Jags win, especially if we win by double digits, you have to do us a favor and go hit subscribe. Or if you just believe they're gonna do it, hit subscribe right now as a statement that the Jags are winning this handily over the Browns. But we'll be back next week. We'll break down the game and then we'll preview week two. But we're gonna sound off and hopefully be saying this a lot on Sunday against the Browns.
